Belts, Belts, Belts. And The TAG Heuer Monaco V4 Tourbillon

It all started in 2004 when TAG Heuer first released the Monaco V4, the first watch to be driven by belts instead of the conventional wheel and pinion. After ten years of experimentation and redesigns, the Monaco V4 Tourbillon was released in 2014 to much fanfare. The V4 has always held a special place in my heart, and with the release of the newly designed movement specifically for the V4 Tourbillon I wanted to break down why it is incredible.

Montblanc Introduces Distinctive Bohème Perpetual Calendar For Ladies

According to a recent interview with CEO Jérôme Lambert at the company’s Hamburg headquarters, Montblanc’s watch business is humming along swimmingly. And an interesting statistic is that women constitute about 35 percent of the clients of this brand. Thus, it stands to perfect reason that the luxury brand boasting two Swiss factories producing elegant wristwatches would not forget women in its campaign to “share its passion for fine watchmaking.”

Heartbeat: Logical One By Romain Gauthier

When Romain Gauthier presented his Logical One at Baselworld 2013, I wasn’t the only one impressed: it was awarded the prestigious prize for best Men’s Complication at the 2013 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève thanks to its quadruple patent-pending constant force and much more.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Mystery And The Solar System

The Masterpiece Mystery is one of my favorite pieces to come from Maurice Lacroix in a while, and it highlights said mystery very clearly with a giant subdial featuring a “floating” second hand. When I first saw this, I, like some others, had the initial impression that something was wrong with the hand. Until I saw it moving. At that moment, I knew I wanted to know how they did it, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a model to take a closer look.

Heartbeat: The High-Lume-Glow-In-The-Dark Urwerk UR-110 TTH

Having had the opportunity to wear Urwerk’s UR-110 TTH for a month, I came to seriously appreciate not only the unique craftsmanship and gorgeous styling of this particular model, but also its cool, yellow-green lume display at night. The blackened titanium case and tantalum bezel is absolutely rock and roll: heavy in color, aesthetic in hue and unusual in this shape.

Moonstruck Again: How Ulysse Nardin Never Ceases To Amaze

This past weekend I had the very good fortune to share an exceptional experience with good friends, a personal one, but it involved people I know through my work with watches. Over dinner we reminisced about a memorable trip back in 2009 to the Nice observatory for the introduction of the Ulysse Nardin Moonstruck wristwatch. Let me take you on a trip down memory lane with it.

Why I Bought It: Vianney Halter Deep Space Tourbillon

This is the first in a planned series of “why I bought it” articles that will unfold here over time. Of course, there will be photos – and lots of them – but I hope you’ll find my commentary on a collector’s mindset and the motivations, delights, and possible misgivings behind each individual transaction interesting, too. Let’s start the series off with a bang: the Vianney Halter Deep Space Tourbillon.
