Over these last five years – and indeed since Elizabeth Doerr has been writing about watches – the large fairs and exhibitions have played central roles in seeing the year’s new pieces. At the moment, the position of the fairs seems to be in some jeopardy, but for now it’s business as usual. Here are a few highlights from the last five years of the world’s largest watch fair, Baselworld.

The tenth edition of Poland’s Watch of the Year by CH24.PL included all timepieces introduced in 2019 competing across six categories. All of these watches were nominated by an international jury comprising journalists from six countries (including Elizabeth Doerr). Brands did not have to enter their watches; the shortlists were made by the jury. So who took home the big prizes?
