As the resident Quill & Pad watch spotter, Nick Gould spends hours on random searches looking for interesting horological finds. Most of the time he finds nothing, but occasionally he discovers nuggets of gold. Here are four of his favorite wrist spots for 2020.
Rolex, Patek Philippe, Chanel, Chopard and Tudor have just announced leaving Baselworld to create a new watch show in Geneva with the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie’s Watches & Wonders. The show will be held in early April 2021 at Geneva’s Palexpo. This is going to be one interesting year full of new thoughts and ideas. Get out the popcorn!
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past several months, you are well aware that on October 26, 2017 Phillips conducted an auction in New York City at which the Paul Newman Rolex Daytona owned by Mr. Newman himself was sold for more than $17.5 million, a record price for a wristwatch of any kind. I was fortunate to attend the auction and its attendant events: there was much more to see and some lessons to take away, about both the current state of the vintage market and bidding at auction.
If I were to recommend a brand new functional dive watch to a friend who was looking to spend within a certain price range, here would be my suggestions. Or, more specifically, here is what I would purchase myself in a variety of price categories.
Why is it that watch brands celebrate watch anniversaries so enthusiastically? The answer isn’t as complicated as you might think . . . and it’s also good to know that major brands like Rolex, Patek Philippe, Cartier, Chanel, and Omega are celebrating major anniversaries in 2017.

The first spinoff film from The Fast and the Furious franchise, ‘Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw,’ was released on August 2, 2019. It features two great characters from the previous films: Luke Hobbs played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham.
