Give Me Five! From The 2015 Bovet Collection

by Ian Skellern

Bovet is one of the quiet achievers in Swiss watchmaking; this brand seems to make little noise, just keeps its imaginary head down and busy developing sensational timepieces.

Here are a just few from the Bovet collection that caught my eye at the brand’s January exhibition in Geneva: Amadeo Fleurier Miss Audrey, Amadeo Fleurier Virtuoso Tourbillon V, Amadeo Fleurier Braveheart Tourbillon, Récital 12 Monsieur Dimier, and Récital 15. The names are as poetic as the watches.

Amadeo Fleurier Miss Audrey

The 36 mm Miss Audrey is part of the Amadeo Fleurier collection, which is characterized by a quick-release system for easily converting the wristwatch into a pocket watch and vice versa. Miss Audrey features a guilloche dial and an automatic winding movement. It also comes with a strap so it can be worn as a wristwatch, while a chain turns it into a pendant.

Récital 12 Monsieur Dimier

The Récital 12 Monsieur Dimier is distinguished by the fact that it is powered by the first movement developed and manufactured entirely by Dimier 1738 (Bovet’s manufacture, which is located in Tramelan) regulated by a non-tourbillon movement. It can also be transformed quickly into either a wristwatch or pocket watch. The Récital 12 Monsieur Dimier features a very healthy seven-day power reserve (seven days of optimal power, that is) and the collection’s characteristic three-handed second hand.

With its intricately engraved dial, five-day power reserve, 60-second tourbillon, jump hours, and retrograde minutes, the Tourbillon Virtuoso V has it all. Impressively, the jump hour, retrograde minutes, and power reserve indicator are all co-axial, yet the watch isn’t overly thick. And as it can be used as a wristwatch, pocket watch or table clock, the Virtuoso Tourbillon V is really three fantastic timepieces in one.

Bovet Récital 15

Bovet Récital 15

Récital 15

All indications on Récital 15 are displayed horizontally, with the most essential displays of jump hours and retrograde minutes on the right so that it is easy to read the time without having to pull back a cuff very far.  The seconds rotate clockwise on both sides of the timepiece, meaning a reversing mechanism had to be incorporated.

Amadeo Fleurier Braveheart Tourbillon

If the Amadeo Fleurier Braveheart‘s world-first (patented) double co-axial seconds display − especially one displaying on both sides (front and back) of the tourbillon − on a flying tourbillon isn’t enough for you, how about an incredible 22-day power reserve? And if that’s still not enough, how about an in-house developed, three-spoked, felly-style balance wheel (in aluminum for optimal inertia and paired with a cylindrical balance spring)? Bovet is one of just a handful of manufactures producing its own balance springs.
