Dear Readers of Quill & Pad,
Thank you for reading Quill & Pad in the nearly ten years since Ian and I put the publication online in 2014. I have enjoyed directing its editorial presence very much.
The time has come for me to take a step back, which I have done as of December 31, 2022, for personal reasons. I look back with gratitude over what we built and achieved in this decade.
Please feel free to continue to interact with me on Instagram @elizabethdoerr.
I wish Ian all the best for the future of Quill & Pad.

What, what a day, what a news, what a sad news. Thank you dear Elizabeth for all your text, news, articles … and hope to read you soon on another platform … be well and keep smiling.
Thank you for your kind words, dear Thomas!
Congratulations on a well earned step back from the horological maelstrom. It has been my absolute pleasure to read and enjoy all of your journalistic endeavors over the years, and I thank you for providing such a unique perspective. One thing we can all be certain of (to paraphrase Walter Lange), you will never stand still.
Thank you very much for your wonderful words, Colton!
Sorry to hear you are leaving. Wishing you all the best.
You not being here is going to hurt the place , I had a couple of short ” chats” with you in the comments section over the years and it was like talking to a friend . I will mis that ! You also really know your stuff, hard to find that now a days! Good luck wherever the road takes you my friend !
Thank you, Ray, it’s been a pleasure.
We will miss your expert and diplomatic responses in the comments. good health and luck in the new challenges you undertake.
Thank you so much!
Dear Elisabeth, many thanks for all your great contributions. You always have been a very well regarded member of the watch community. Hope you will enjoy your next journey in life with lots of pleasure and in good health.
Best, wouter
I appreciate your kind words, Wouter!
Congratulations on your retirement, Elizabeth!
Hopefully, we might see a guest column from you occasionally down the road. Much like tennis, watches are a lifelong passion!!
Beth, I’ve always admired your vast watch knowledge, your love of good journalism and your no-nonsense attitude! I know we will stay in touch, but I will miss your presence on this site.
Thank you, Nancy! You know that you and I will be in touch forever!
This is a small, rarified community which I am pleased to be a part of. Ms Doerr’s leadership has been graceful & dignified. She will be missed.
I too am sad to see you retire from Quill & Pad. Can’t imagine the site will be the same without you.
All the best in your future endeavors 🙂
You are so right, she was the thread that binds. It will be different without her for sure.
Your departure is a big loss for all of us! It has been an honor working under your leadership for these past nine (!) years and I know that our paths will continue to cross regularly. Our community is all the richer for your presence and I hope you will remain active in it in the years to come.
With all best wishes, Gary
Hi Elizabeth
Will you still attend events such as W&W and Dubai Watch Week?
I hope so, and if you do, I look forward to seeing you next month.
Take care
James
I’m very sure our paths will continue to cross, James!
Thanks for pioneering this great site. I’m sure Ian will continue to do a great job (you’ve taught him well).
Many happy memories of meetings years ago.
Retirement can be great. Enjoy!
Best wishes,
Tim
Very sorry to see you go Elizabeth, it was an honour and a pleasure to work with you!
Dear Elizabeth,
what a pity!!! I was so happy there was somebody with whom I could share past (and lost) years!!!
I am sure you have good reasons to leave wonderful watches world, and hope you will continue to follow it in a less hard manner. And I wish you will have another wonderful Summer in Italy nex year.
All my my best wishes Elena I.
My dearest Elena! We have known each other for more than 30 years and I’m so glad you have been such a wonderful presence in the watch world all this time, one of the true OGs! We will always stay in touch, of that I am sure!
Won’t be the same without your ever insightful flourish dear Elizabeth.
You’ve certainly earned remarkable standing in the world of horological reporting.
Ian, a very worthy noble journalist in his own right, shall undoubtedly press-on.
We, on the other hand, are at a loss. Yes, you’ve certainly earned a worthy respite.
Just know you’ll be missed weekly kiddo!
Dear Elizabeth,
thanks for your contributions over the past time!
All the best for you,
Christian
Dearest Elizabeth,
You have been such an inspiration for me on so many levels. Thank you being such a strong voice and always executing it with such grace. Much deserved but I will miss our catch-ups at the various watch fairs and numerous zoom calls. Thank you for all your contribution.
Wishing you nothing but the best always…
