Hublot Celebrates 10 Years Of Big Bang With Rock Concert Featuring Members Of Kiss, Skid Row, Night Ranger, And Guns N’ Roses

by Elizabeth Doerr

In 2005, the watch world was a much different place. Current head of LVMH’s watch and jewelry division Jean-Claude Biver’s idea of creating a fusion timepiece (hence the name Big Bang) to turn Hublot’s original “porthole” watch into something that was not only new to Hublot, but new to watches in general, was very well received, and the Big Bang quickly became an evergreen.

Ten years later and the Big Bang is still going strong. It has spawned countless references, iterations, and, yes, limited editions in honor of practically every ambassador imaginable and events that the brand sponsors (and then some). Much of the model’s success can be chalked up to the somewhat larger-than-life attitude that Hublot has taken on in promoting the Big Bang; this naturally includes high-profile sponsorships, events, and even one-off experiences that bind associations and audiences. These take place in the worlds of sports, music, art, and everything in between.

I am personally quite a fan of this tactic as it brings horology out into the spotlight, allowing it to be experienced and enjoyed by a larger audience. The 2014 sponsorship of the FIFA World Cup of soccer is one such example (to see what I mean by this, please read Gooooooaaaaalllll! Hublot Colorfully Kicks Off With The FIFA World Cup).

Without a doubt, my favorite event involving Hublot and this extensive attitude toward branding and celebration was the small concert that took place at Baselworld 2015 in honor of ten years of the Big Bang.

Hublot arranged to bring five bona fide rock stars to Baselworld to play a small concert for its clients to celebrate this grand achievement, thereby forming an extraordinary ‘80s supergroup: singer Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), guitarist Tommy Thayer (Kiss), bass player Jack Blades (Night Ranger and Damn Yankees), and keyboard player Teddy “Zig Zag” Andreadis, who has toured with Guns N’ Roses.

And, of course, keeping the tempo for the group was the one and only Eric Singer, Kiss’ extraordinary drummer who also happens to be quite an aficionado of fine watches.

Even though a luxury watch might not necessarily fit the image of a rock star, the various Hublot models the musicians received, which include the King Power Unico All Carbon, the Big Bang Ferrari, and the King Power Unico Black Magic, all look great on their wrists as you can plainly see on the concert footage below.

The effervescent Bach seems to have enjoyed Baselworld. His Instagram account showed him at the Erwin Sattler booth the next day cracking jokes (and wearing his watch).

The video brings you a good taste of the amazing concert the rockers played at Baselworld in honor of Hublot, including a rousing rendition of the Kiss hit “Shout It Out Loud.”

Rock on, Big Bang!
