The moment you have been waiting for is finally here: Quill & Pad is live! The new horological platform founded by professional watch journalists Elizabeth Doerr and Ian Skellern is an exciting and progressive publication bringing you what you love most: unique, high-quality photography, insightful commentary, and exciting stories from the world of haute horlogerie.
And to celebrate this momentous moment, we are having a party…a launch party! And you are invited.
Register to receive regular updates before March 3 and you will have a chance to win some serious “party favors”!
You enter into the drawing just by signing up! All you have to do is click quillandpad.com, enter your email in the field on the right side of the page and click “Subscribe.”
Entries close on March 3, 2014 at 18:00 CET. Winners will be notified by e-mail.
The drawing takes place on Wednesday, March 5. You could come away the proud owner of:
A handmade fountain pen by Manu Propria valued at $2,200.
As a mechanical watch enthusiast, we know that you are also likely to be interested in other handcrafted objects. What better way to launch Quill & Pad than with one of the finest “quills” available?
This one-of-a-kind writing instrument embellished with urushi lacquer is modeled on traditional Japanese fountain pens. All parts of the pen except the ink and the nib (which comes from famed nib-maker Bock in Germany) are handmade, including the ebonite barrel (which makes it very light). The complex urushi layers are polished between each step, resulting in this unique look. It takes 14 days to complete one pen.
The fountain pen comes with a handmade pen rest lacquered to look like a branch and is delivered in two hand-sewn duffel pouches.
Rare doesn’t get much rarer than this, unless we’re talking about a Greubel Forsey timepiece. Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey have very kindly given Quill & Pad one of the exceedingly exclusive Meccano proof-of-concept models of the double tourbillon 30° mechanism, which were created to commemorate the brand’s tenth anniversary this year. The original Meccano model was made by Stephen Forsey; you can learn more about the significance of this special “complication” in the video below
Richard Mille’s celebrity golf ambassador Bubba Watson has hand-signed a visor for one lucky winner of our draw. Its retail price? Priceless.
Richard Mille is also offering a pair of Sol Republic Tracks headphones.
Roland Iten has a special surprise up his sleeve for three winners: a beautiful, signed, limited edition of three print illustrations of the yet-to-be-released R8 22 MkIII buckle, which is expected to launch in June 2014.
Nomos Glashütte sponsors a package consisting of: one “pencil case” (including a fountain pen, mechanical pencils, an eraser and stationery), one copy of the The Great Universal Encyclopaedia, and one notebook.
For fans of high watchmaking who love to read, what could be better than receiving a signed copy of a treasured book? And we here at Quill & Pad have several to offer you:
Quill & Pad co-founder Ian Skellern and watchmaker Peter Speake-Marin co-wrote Hands of Time, the story of the A.H.C.I, which was published for the independent group’s 25th anniversary. We have three copies signed by Skellern and Speake-Marin to go into the draw.
Michael Clerizo is offering a signed copy of his latest tome, George Daniels: A Master Watchmaker & His Art.
Quill & Pad co-founder Elizabeth Doerr is donating a signed copy of her book on independent watchmaking, 12 Faces of Time: Horological Virtuosos.
Alex Ghotbi is giving away a signed copy of his book, Vacheron Constantin Caliber 1731.
Independent watchmaker Beat Haldimann will sign and send two copies of his exclusively designed and photographed book Haldimann to two lucky winners.
A signed copy of photographer Ralf Baumgarten’s unique book UhrMenschen, a look at 50 very different people and their watches.
And there’s more!
* Three practical and stylish Ulysse Nardin trekking rucksacks by Dakine Helipro in blue with a white Ulysse Nardin logo
* A Corum Energy Team polo shirt from the America’s Cup
* A Corum boxed set of 2 aprons (his and hers)
* A Corum-branded Lexon LA 42 Tykho radio
* A leather billfold from Bremont
* A set of Sarpaneva “Ruler of Water” coasters
* An Urwerk loupe

All you have to do is click http://quillandpad.com/, enter your email in the field on the right side of the page and click “Subscribe.” Entries close on March 3, 18:00 CET.
Party on!
With our very best regards, Elizabeth & Ian

Ian and Elizabeth, you’re off to a great start. How cool is that Meccano proof-of-concept model of their double tourbillon 30°? I’m lusting for that about as much as i would one of their timepieces.
Thank you very much, Robert. I desperately want one of those Greubel Forsey Meccanos as well, but they are seriously rarer than some of their watches.
