Video: Roger Federer Explains A Few Of His Special Rolexes

by Elizabeth Doerr

The grass courts of Wimbledon are holy grounds for all tennis players and it is here that Roger Federer, often called the game’s greatest player, has excelled.

However, although the 33-year-old Swiss is a seven-time Wimbledon champion, he hasn’t reached a Grand Slam final since last winning at Wimbledon in 2012.

On Sunday the 6th of July 2014, Federer took on Novak Djokovic (a Seiko ambassador, incidentally) in an ultimately unsuccessful fight for his eighth Wimbledon title

Federer is a long-time Rolex ambassador, and as such naturally owns a few Rolex models, both new and vintage.

In the video below, Federer is interviewed by former world number one, Indian tennis player Vijay Amritraj (also associated with Rolex).

Federer explains the significance of three Rolex watches from his collection that are very special to him.

Rolex no longer has the prestige associated with it, it used to have in the 70s and 80s.
Its now a mass produced luxury. They currently produce 2 million watches a year.
The watches are no longer handmade, they have huge robotic assembly line.
Roger is being paid to wear Rolex, he would say anything to sell tham.
I am sure he has a secret stash of Pateks, AP or A. Lange Shone, which would appear,
as soon as his contract ends with Rolex.

As you could read in the official COSC annual reports, Rolex never did produce 1 million watches a year. Included a relatively small number of Cellinis without certification some years ago. Why not collect other nice watches?

Mr Kamrul, I think you are just angry and jealous you can’t get a Rolex. You dont know what you are talking about. A newbie that google about watches and think you have the right info. Even my Rolex watch maker that have been at the Rolex Geneva factory said he ”think” they make around 700k watches a year but don’t know at all. Nobody knows how many watches Rolex makes. Rolexes are the most accurate, durable, reliable, timeless luxury brand out there. I own many watches from different brands, like Patek, Royal oak, omega and so one and my favorite of them all are My Rolex watches. Because I can wear them everywhere with and never have an issue with them. I had to many problems with my AP RO so I never wear them anymore. I only wear my Patek watches sometimes because they are to fragile and I have to be extra careful. You have to have experience with watch to comment. You watch newbies just google everything and think you know it all…..stop being a hater. Instead work hard and you maybe will be able to buy a Rolex in the future.
