Urwerk Calls This A Zeit Device, But Come On, What’s It Really For?

by Ian Skellern

Urwerk calls this weapon-grade “wristwatch” the UR-1001 Zeit Device, but come on, does the brand expect anyone to believe that?

It must do much more than tell the time; even the Star Trek communicators were smaller than this. Set your phasers to stun and let us know what you think the Zeit Device is really for in the comments below.

Congratulations to DanW94 for his winning “fondue dietary advice” entry for last week’s photo, but the punny exchange between Dan and Ryan is worth a read all by itself. Check out all of the comments last week at Philippe Dufour Simplicity, De Bethune DB28, And Fondue: What’s Going On Here?

    This is just silly.
Urwerk is “Jumping the shark” now.
Besides, I thought the trend for “gaudy and oversized” was over after the sub-prime crisis, GFC and Thierry Nataf.

    It’s clearly the mechanical back-up timer/detonator for the Predator’s wrist mounted self-destruct module…

I usually love Urwerk’s bold design aesthetic, but this one’s definitely not a zeit for sore eyes. I don’t think the buyer was aware of the size of this watch, perhaps he bought it zeit unseen.

I thought monitoring devices for house arrest went on the ankle not the wrist??

The UR 1001 is pictured here, wearing a man in his mid thirties and a suit – a good choice of human for a watch to wear on a Saturday evening.

Agree with all the comments so far.

As for the pic – a slab of black macho combined with a suit and wedding ring?

Ian, you have now become one of my favoriter writers – in fact not to be missed – and I forgive you for the blurb you did on the Urwerk “Torpedo” aka Supernova, some years ago 🙂
