Some addresses are legendary, and one of them is 9 Curzon Street in Mayfair, London. Established in 1875, it is the home of Geo. F. Trumper, which has grown in a little over a century into a British icon.
Originally a barber shop, Geo. F. Trumper is now famous worldwide for its colognes, aftershaves, and skin tonics. It has earned a place among men’s most classic scents by being simple yet refined. It is like an (English) gentleman: sophisticated, but not needing to put that on display.
Geo. F. Trumper’s scents are grooming products chosen by the man who wears them for their qualities. The sillage is modest, yet the scents show staying power in terms of longevity.
Being a British company, and proud of it, many of Geo. F. Trumper’s scents have been around for decades. That makes some of them perhaps a bit unusual for modern times.
Like Bay Rum, which sounds like a pirate’s retreat on Jamaica but is actually a combination of bay leaves with clove. Distinct and masculine, it is a combination of smells that popular designer scents have pushed to the background but one that is still going strong here.
Another classic in its arsenal is Sandalwood. Geo F. Trumper knows to elevate this sweet, woody smell with a touch of citrus, giving it a whole new character.
Perhaps the most special quality of a Geo. F. Trumper scent is that it smells familiar even if you have never smelled it before, taking your mind to a place of great comfort, and therefore wearing like a tailor-made suit – from Savile Row of course.
At the heart of a Geo. F. Trumper scent is usually a very limited number of ingredients, but of extraordinary quality. That makes them not only recognizable but also very pure and timeless.
Eucris: the worlds most famous scent, though few are familiar
This is especially the case for Eucris, which Geo. F. Trumper developed in 1912. Eucris is both the most famous scent in the world and one that very few people have heard of.
Why? Because it was author Ian Fleming’s choice for James Bond in his famous novels. For a scent that has been around for more than a century, it is refreshingly modern with an aromatic base of oak moss and caraway seed combined with black currant, jasmine, and lily-of-the-valley. It gives Eucris a fresh, spicy smell that is as masculine as it is sophisticated.
Geo. F. Trumper has never forgotten its roots, and even today its shops (there is a second store on Duke of York Street in St. James) offer everything from a haircut to a shave in an ambiance that is still the same as it was in 1875, although there is one concession to modern times: air conditioning.
A full range of men’s grooming accessories are on display as well as a knowledgeable staff to help you select exactly what suits your needs.
Although Geo. F. Trumper’s stores are worth a visit when in London, gentlemen who live elsewhere don’t have to worry: its aftershaves and colognes are also available at exclusive perfume stores.
And should life keep you on the move, there is also have an excellent e-shop with worldwide delivery.
We always catch up with you, Mr. Bond.
