There are several characteristics fundamental to the design of a good sports watch, whether it’s for use in the air, on land, or in the sea.
The Tutima M2 strikes a chord on several important notes, offering good legibility, reliable and useful functions, and, of course, comfort. The Tutima M2 is amazingly affordable as well, with enough variation and movement within the collection to keep me engaged.
The M2, one of Germany-based Tutima’s core collections, was built on the admirable reputation and good bones of the brand’s NATO pilot’s chronograph from 1984. The collection, now comprising the M2 Pioneer, the Seven Seas, and the Coastline, has incorporated new modifications and models along the way, like the M2 Chronograph Commando with a green dial that launched earlier this year.
Tutima M2 Seven Seas Signal Yellow
The three-hand M2 Seven Seas was first introduced at Baselworld 2016, and the newest interpretation of this diver’s watch is brightened up by Signal Yellow and Signal Orange dials housed in 44 mm brushed titanium cases and bracelets.
Straps are also available, made from Kevlar and rubber – a first for the Tutima M2 Seven Seas series. The straps’ linings, as well as the stitching on their textured surfaces, are in either yellow or orange to complement the respective dials.

A screw-in crown, threaded case back, and three millimeter-thick sapphire crystal contribute to the watch’s impressive water resistance rating of 500 meters. Inside, automatic Caliber 330 with a 38-hour power reserve manages the hours, minutes, seconds, day, and date. Its rotor is decorated with Tutima’s familiar gold seal.
A unidirectional rotating bezel with a Super-LumiNova-coated dot at 12 o’clock ensures safety and clarity in dark conditions, as do the coated hands and indices.
Tutima M2 Seven Seas Signal Orange And Signal Yellow
While I am not normally a fan of bright colors when it comes to watches, I find this pair to be quite agreeable in their adventurousness. Further, I would probably pick the strap over the bracelet: the complementary stitching adds nuance that appeals to me, adding a touch of tailoring to this super-sporty look.
Its dependable movement and affordable price, as well as Tutima’s lengthy history in making reliable workhorse watches, make the M2 Seven Seas a smart choice for a sporty watch.
Tutima M2 in the news with free diver Tolga Taskin
In a demonstration of robust reliability last year, the aforementioned M2 Pioneer made the news when free diver Tolga Taskin dove 74.8 meters in a single breath under the ice of Lake Weissensee in Austria while wearing the Tutima M2. Without carrying any additional air to breathe, Taskin’s feat required him to hold his breath for two minutes and 43 seconds, earning a new Guinness Book World Record.

Tutima Glashütte manufacture manager Alexander Philipp, who witnessed the event, said, “We literally trembled as we accompanied Tolga. We are thrilled to support Tolga Taskin on his breathtaking path to further records.”
Watch and man are both doing fine.
One final note
The tag line for the M2 on the Tutima website is, “For men who feel at home where the air gets thinner.” I realize that Tutima’s collections are mostly intended for male wrists . . . but come on, guys.
