New Release: Urwerk UR-100V Time & Culture II

In my (far from humble) opinion, the Urwerk UR-100 is a breath of fresh air in the usually incredibly staid world of the dress watch.
At first glance it displays just hours – admittedly, they are pretty special wandering satellite hours – and minutes. But closer inspection of each side of the inner ‘bezel’ reveals astronomical indications: the distance traveled on Earth by its rotation (555 km in 20 minutes) and the distance traveled by Earth on its journey around the sun (5,740 km in 20 minutes).

The intricate engraving on the top of the case is a tribute to ancient Sumerian deities (the Sumerian culture has long been an inspiration for Urwerk).

Symbols represent the Sun god Utu by a four-pointed sun (the four cardinal points), and between the lugs is the moon god Nanna.

The blue represents lapis lazuli, which is associated Innana, the goddess of Love, War and Fertility. As well as the gods, there are authentic sky charts and planispheres highlighting the Sumerians’ appreciation for astronomy.
