Michael Friedberg wearing his IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days
Q&P: How did you get into watches?
MF: It all started with my Dad when he bought a Rolex in the early 1960s. I figured if something was that special to him, I’d better learn about watches.
Q&P: Why are you here at SIHH?
MF: I’m moderator of IWC’s Collectors’ Forum at www.iwc.com. IWC invites collectors to attend the SIHH, to get a first look at the new products and to learn more about the company. I serve as a host. I guess I’m also an unofficial goodwill ambassador and talk to journalists, other collectors, and other visitors.
Q&P: What is your “day job”?
MF: In real life I’m a senior partner in a law firm in the United States. I serve as practice head for our trusts and estates group.

Q&P: What is your favorite watch to wear right now?
MF: There are actually two. One is my IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days with a blue dial. But at SIHH I’m wearing the other one: a prototype of the very special IWC Collectors’ Forum Pilot’s Chronograph. It’s a new limited edition primarily for our forum members, and I believe it’s the quintessential modern pilot’s watch.
