This possibly intergalactic, underwater, time-traveling machine is actually the business end of a CNC lathe at Uhren-Werke-Dresden manufacture in Germany (see Lang & Heyne’s Marco Lang Heads New Watch Group).
Well, that’s what Marco Lang told me, but I’ve long suspected that the technology he uses is far too sophisticated just for making components for watches. And is that an anti-gravity machine in the corner?
Let us know what you think this machine might really be for in the comments below. May the force be with you.

Congratulations to @JakePrice04 via Twitter for his winning five-pointed-crown suggestion for which watch last week’s subject might be wearing. Special mention to Gary’s Malladuck watch brand entry as well. You can check out that and all of last week’s entries at What Watch Is The “Duck” Wearing? Caption Competition #29.

I’ve heard rumors of a new Avatar film, but this is the first strong evidence.
Seeing as swisnano is a type of hairdryer I’m guessing a superfast perm setter?
It’s a Tornos Swiss style lathe. Instead the tools moving across the workpiece, like a convential lath, the stock is supported by a guide bushing and pushed through the tools for more rigidity. They can make tiny tiny parts very quickly and extremely accurately. I program and set up 7 similar machines at work. I don’t make watch parts though. The thing in the corner looks like a Star SR-32.

Good one, Tony!
Congratulations, Tony, you are a winner. Bask in that warm glow. 🙂
