If you are interested in a look behind the curtain of how watch journalism is conducted in both the digital and Coronavirus ages, then this video is for you. Join Tim Mosso, media director of Watchbox, and I as we discuss how journalists have had to change up their routines, get access to people and watches, and navigate the somewhat strange waters of the digital – and Covid-19 – era.
Tim as always is an absolute delight and gets right to the heart of every matter, which makes for a fast-paced conversation chock full of interesting and honest information. Including tackling the big question: is print dead?
And we discuss the world of independent watchmaking, including everyone’s favorite De Bethune (a brand that Watchbox has invested in), and how the independents fared with and through Covid-19.
Plus the phenomenon of “Instagram-famous” celebrity watch collectors – including GaryG.
This video was made at the end of Dubai Watch Week 2021 – which you might be able to glean from my tired demeanor and voice – at the end of a long, strange watch year. I do hope you enjoy!

Well, lip service is a start, but I don’t require the integrity to shine through the advertorial murk, even if you do it better than most – it’s always been watch porn to me and I love it (and you’ll know that from my very first post here years ago). Never bought a watch on the opinion of a writer, always after a period of balancing heart and mind with study.
The thing that bothers me about H*dinkee isn’t the exit-strategy-march to commercial Valhalla, it’s their cringy God Bless Uhmerica stink. But them’s the demographics I suppose.
It *would* be nice if you started reviewing watches you don’t like (although rather for objective reasons of bad quality instead of mere aesthetics), but there’s a chance you’ll slag off one I own, so I should be careful what I wish for. 😉
I learnt a lot of things I had never even thought about there, Elizabeth – but then it’s unlikely that anyone will ever offer me money for my opinion on a specific watch!
