Batman Day: Check Out These 5 Watch Stories Involving The Dark Knight In One Way Or Another

by Elizabeth Doerr

Did you know that Batman Day is actually a thing? Even though I am an acknowledged comic book fan – what’s not to like about the Caped Crusader and his ilk? – I will admit that I did not know until recently that Batman Day is real. And it’s today, September 18, 2021.

In honor of Batman Day, here are five stories Quill & Pad has done over the years invoking either the image or the name of one of DC Comics’ highest-grossing franchise characters: Batman!

Holy uncanny mental processes, Batman!!

Vacheron Constantin Chronomètre Royal: Flamboyance, Precision, And The “Batman”

Alexandre Ghotbi takes an in-depth look at the 100-year-plus history behind the high-precision Vacheron Constantin Chronomètre Royal . . . which came up because of a conversation about “the Batman.”

‘Batman v Superman’: DC Comic Hero Immortalized By Jaeger-LeCoultre, Romain Jerome, And Montegrappa Timepieces

The release of 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer delighted me to no end. So I wrote this post to call to memory a few recent-history items that commemorated Batman by Jaeger-LeCoultre, Romain Jerome, and Montegrappa.

Heartbeat: Batman-DNA Gotham City Is Romain Jerome’s Glowing Tribute To ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’

Before Romain Jerome’s untimely demise, Warner Brothers’ DC Entertainment joined forces with the brand to pay tribute to the comic world’s Dark Knight in time for the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Like something out of Batman’s own arsenal, this watch’s black 46 mm PVD-coated stainless steel case includes an asymmetrically faceted bezel finished with alternating rough-brushed and polished surfaces. And don’t forget the lume! Cape not included, though. Discover more at Heartbeat: Batman-DNA Gotham City Is Romain Jerome’s Glowing Tribute To ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.’

Great Rolex Experiment With The GMT-Master II Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Crown

Yep, this one is something of a cheat involving the Rolex GMT-Master II BLNR, which is nicknamed “the Batman” due to its black-and-blue Cerachrom ceramic bezel.

Attractive and robust: Rolex GMT-Master II BLNR

Some background to this article: GaryG once wrote on Quill & Pad about his relationship with the world’s greatest mass-luxury brand in Why I’ve Never Owned a Rolex – And Why I Might Yet. Well, to know him is to know that if he says he “might yet” buy something it’s likely only a matter of time. So, too, with this Rolex.

Find out why Gary changed his mind about Rolex with “the Batman” in Great Rolex Experiment With The GMT-Master II Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Crown.

Why I Bought It: Konstantin Chaykin Joker

Bonus: here’s a great way to celebrate Batman’s archenemy, the Joker, on Batman Day as well!

Okay, okay: this is not that Joker. It’s Konstantin Chaykin’s Joker, whose “face” is just that with two googly eyes showing the hours and minutes with their respective pupils and a lolling red tongue displaying the phase of the moon.

Let me add another Batman-ish watch…the Heuer/TAG Heuer 844 Monnin Divers…the case has always reminded me of the famous Batwing from Burton’s Batman with Michael Keaton.
