Gustafsson and Sjögren GoS: Mouthwatering Photos Of Swedish Independents’ Smithy And Winter Nights Watch

Watchmaker Patrik Sjögren recentently shared the news that his business partner Johan Gustafsson will be featured in an upcoming book by David Darom focusing on artistic folder knives and how they are made. A photo shoot in Gustafsson’s Swedish smithy was staged to illustrate the procedures he uses to make his signature Mosaic Damascus steel and the duo’s superb new Winter Nights model. Here we share some of those mood-heavy photos.

Greubel Forsey’s 2016 SIHH: An Overview Of Watches Presented

Not so very long ago, the Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision in white gold won the coveted Aiguille d’Or at the 2015 edition of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. At the 2016 edition of the SIHH, Greubel Forsey presented an absolutely luscious black-dialed red gold version of this watch, but that wasn’t all we saw here. Follow us on a photographic journey to discover the new Greubel Forsey creations from SIHH 2016.

Photo Caption Competition No. 5 Starring A De Bethune (Or Two)

Today we have a horologically themed caption competition that involves one of my favorite brands: De Bethune.

The photo below was shot at SIHH 2016, and I have to thank regular contributors Simon Cudd and Joshua Munchow for posing as wrist models. I will not reveal who is wearing which watch, but regular readers are likely to be able to make a fairly educated guess. Leave your caption ideas in the comments!

Manufacture Royale 1770 Voltige

Why The Manufacture Royale 1770 Voltige Has No Need To “Humble Brag”

In the watch industry, there are many brands struggling to find just the right balance of modesty and pride in their accomplishments, but one brand that does a pretty darn good job of juggling the balance is Manufacture Royale. And one of the best pieces of evidence for this is the 1770 Voltige. Read on and I think you’ll see why.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Tribute Gyrotourbillon

The New Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon: Now More Comfortable To Wear Through Even Slimmer Fit

In 2008, Jaeger-LeCoultre placed its revolutionary Gyrotourbillon in the Reverso case for the first time. In 2016, in celebration of the 85th anniversary of the Reverso, a new edition called the Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon arrives on the scene in a 75-piece limited edition. And it is about 30 percent slimmer than the original thanks to the addition of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gyrolab balance wheel and a semi-spherical hairspring.

Collectors Speak: Picks And Pans Of SIHH Week 2016

It’s already been six consecutive years that I’ve had the delightful experience of going through SIHH week with several of my closest friends. Our closing discussions centered around four questions, which were focused more tightly on SIHH itself this year due to the inclusion of nine independent watchmakers: what watch did you think was best of show at SIHH? What was the worst watch of the show? What watch displayed at the show would you buy if money were no object? What watch did you see on display that would you buy with your own money?

HYT H2 Tradition

The HYT H2 Tradition: Timeless In A Surprisingly Steampunk Way

Passion for historical items, objects, and ideas are quite prevalent in timepieces that emerge from the modern watch industry. While HYT captures the passionate feel such items in its new H2 Tradition, it also manages to unwittingly create a true steampunk object . . . if it wasn’t for the cool microfluidic technology. Nonetheless, HYT itself calls this piece “traditional.” Read on to make up your own mind about whether it’s traditional, steampunk, or simply technical.

Photo Caption Competition No. 4 Starring T-Rex

Thanks to all who submitted entries to our Photo Caption Competition No. 3 starring none other than Mr. Vianney Halter. Photo Caption Competition No. 4 features a very brightly colored T-Rex looking into what looks like a car mirror (or whatever you deign it to be). Please add your caption suggestions to the comments below the post.

De Bethune DB25 World Traveller wristshot

Displaying World Time “Mysteriously” : The De Bethune DB25 World Traveller

Yes, you read that title correctly: the DB25 launched at the 2016 SIHH displays world time and a second time zone in a mysterious manner. And, yes, “mysterious” is a common technical term in watchmaking for a certain type of indication. And, no, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill world time watch. It is from De Bethune after all.

Montblanc 4810 ExoTourbillon Slim 110 Years Edition

Montblanc Celebrates 110 Years With 2 Pocket Watches And Special Edition Wristwatches From The 4810 Collection

Mont Blanc is visible from just about everywhere in Geneva: the name of the highest mountain in the Alps means “white mountain” and it rises 4,808.73 meters above sea level. The summit comprises a thick dome of snow and ice, which makes exact measurements not only difficult, but also different depending on what time of year – and what year – the measurements are taken. This is why Montblanc added “4810,” the approximate height of Mont Blanc in meters, to its historical logo. And 4810 is also the name of a new themed collection making its debut at the 2016 edition of the SIHH.
