Many watch auctions appear to be dominated by notable sales of Rolex and Patek Philippe timepieces. And I’ve nothing against those two lovely brands, but the world of big auctions is becoming ever more monotone. Here are some genuinely exotic, decidedly out-of-the-ordinary timepieces currently on offer at Christie’s Important Watches auction, which takes place in Dubai on March 19, 2017.
Richard Mille celebrates motorsport legend Jean Todt with three new editions of some of Mille’s best design work in Todt’s favorite blue color. The first is the new RM 11-03 Flyback Chronograph in a blue-and-white quartz TPT case. The other two highly limited editions compris the RM 050 and RM 056 Sapphire.
Please join our Quill & Pad round table discussion, where we talk about what we did and didn’t like at the 2017 SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie). And get ready for a cornucopia of beautiful photos and colorful opinions!
In honor of the upcoming 27th edition of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), which opens its doors on January 16, 2017, we present you with an overview of 35 new models that have already been revealed – at least electronically.
Perhaps it’s unsurprising that Richard Mille, a company catering to similarly well-heeled clients as Airbus, decided a collaboration might work. The resulting product is a truly high-end piece of horology intended to go hand in hand with a new Airbus Corporate Jet.
The year 2016 was at times grey and sullen, while at other times it rained purple, red, or blue and a host of other vibrant (and symbolic) colors. There was also a crop of colorful watches to stand out from the masses of new steel and titanium-encased horology, titillating the senses with bursts of fresh color. Here are five-ish colorful watches that caught my eye last year from HYT, Richard Mille, Fabergé, GoS, and Kari Voutilainen.
Wayde van Niekerk had barely had time to catch his breath since his astounding Olympic win and new world record in the 400-meter race at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Soon after the Olympics, van Niekerk found himself in Paris on a beautiful early fall day with Richard Mille . . . and me.
As a sports fan, I have been keeping track of what’s going on at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. What has really caught my eye thus far is the fact that there have been four athletes wearing a wristwatch while competing in their various events . . . and all four are wearing Richard Mille timepieces.
Seventeen years ago the Rallye des Princesses (Princess Rally) was staged for the first time. Adding even more elegance, glamour, and performance, Richard Mille joined the event as principle sponsor in 2015.
Richard Mille invited Nola Martin and I on this year’s road trip, which took place May 28 through June 2, 2016. We were given a shiny new BMW press car with which to follow the rally, thereby gaining firsthand experience to find out what it takes to complete this beautiful journey.
I recently went to a boutique opening thrown by Richard Mille in Munich. Sounds like fun, but think about it for a minute: who opens a standalone boutique in a country filled with really, really traditionally minded collectors – in this financial atmosphere? And, there was a surprise in store, in this case it was a new ambassador. Meet world rally champion Sébastien Ogier.
