Becoming Horological Art: My Transformational Experience With Alexa Meade And The Audemars Piguet Equation Of Time – Reprise

February 29, 2020/0 Comments/in Arts, Collectors and Collecting, Audemars Piguet/by GaryG

It would be relatively easy, and pretty interesting, for GaryG to tell you the story of his two days one summer with artist Alexa Meade and her team. And he’ll get to that, but there’s more: the flood of sensations and emotions that came from considering why time and space are so important to him and from inhabiting a work of art that melded GaryG’s vision of himself with the artist’s interpretation and self-expression. But what does any of this have to do with watches?

The Sense And Non-Sense Of Watches In Movies – Reprise

February 29, 2020/5 Comments/in Arts, Thoughts & Opinion/by Martin Green

There was a time when viewers didn’t consciously pay that much attention to what kind of wristwatches movie characters wore. This often meant that actors wore their personal watches on set, sometimes even when it didn’t suit the movie. Today placing a wristwatch in a big film is big business, which also changes the types of timepieces characters now wear.

Ron Zacapa Centenario: Guatemalan Rum From ‘The House Above The Clouds’

February 25, 2020/2 Comments/in Highlights, Wining, Dining and Cigars/by Ken Gargett

Zacapa was one of the first rums ever to convince Ken Gargett that there was serious life in the category outside the ubiquitous “Bundy.” He doesn’t think that it will be long before people think of the best rums alongside other premium spirits, and Zacapa is one of the foremost proponents of this movement.

Annual Calendars Are Goldilocks Complications: Not Too Hot, Not Too Cold, Just Right – Reprise

February 15, 2020/1 Comment/in History, Technology, Patek Philippe/by Martin Green

When perpetual calendars are too complicated but a simple calendar just doesn’t cut it anymore because nearly half the months have less than 31 days, it’s five adjusts a year too many for some. But don’t fret, there is a middle ground between the most basic calendar watches and complex perpetual calendars. The annual calendar automatically adjusts for each month with 30 or 31 days, meaning just one adjust for the owner in February. Here’s a brief history of the complication.

All Gold On Earth Came From A Big Bang (Not That One) In Outer Space – Reprise

February 9, 2020/6 Comments/in Watch Brands & Horology, Luxury, Experiences, Science & Nature, Science/by Ian Skellern

The most common choice for classic dress watches has to be gold, but have you ever wondered where that gold originally came from? And by “originally” Ian Skellern isn’t referring to a gold mine on earth but the original source of the gold before it even arrived on our planet. Spoiler alert: it involves an explosion, a very big explosion!

Pierre Peters Les Chétillons: One Of The World’s Great Champagnes You’ve Probably Never Heard Of

February 6, 2020/0 Comments/in Wining, Dining and Cigars/by Ken Gargett

If Ken Gargett were to tell you that he is looking at one of the great champagnes, that wouldn’t really narrow it down for you. If he said it was a blanc de blancs then you’d be able to get closer. And if he said it had become a cult favorite in recent years, you might think he is talking about Selosse, Agrapart, Collin, or one of the other emerging growers. The champagne he puts under the microscope today is actually from small(ish) grower Pierre Peters and it is the flagship, Les Chétillons. Find out what he thinks about it here!
