It’s already been six consecutive years that I’ve had the delightful experience of going through SIHH week with several of my closest friends. Our closing discussions centered around four questions, which were focused more tightly on SIHH itself this year due to the inclusion of nine independent watchmakers: what watch did you think was best of show at SIHH? What was the worst watch of the show? What watch displayed at the show would you buy if money were no object? What watch did you see on display that would you buy with your own money?
The HYT H2 Tradition: Timeless In A Surprisingly Steampunk Way
Passion for historical items, objects, and ideas are quite prevalent in timepieces that emerge from the modern watch industry. While HYT captures the passionate feel such items in its new H2 Tradition, it also manages to unwittingly create a true steampunk object . . . if it wasn’t for the cool microfluidic technology. Displaying World Time “Mysteriously” : The De Bethune DB25 World Traveller
Yes, you read that title correctly: the DB25 launched at the 2016 SIHH displays world time and a second time zone in a mysterious manner. And, yes, “mysterious” is a common technical term in watchmaking for a certain type of indication. And, no, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill world time watch. It is from De Bethune after all.
Montblanc Celebrates 110 Years With 2 Pocket Watches And Special Edition Wristwatches From The 4810 Collection
Mont Blanc is visible from just about everywhere in Geneva: the name of the highest mountain in the Alps means “white mountain” and it rises 4,808.73 meters above sea level. The summit comprises a thick dome of snow and ice, which makes exact measurements not only difficult, but also different depending on what time of year – and what year – the measurements are taken. This is why Montblanc added “4810,” the approximate height of Mont Blanc in meters, to its historical logo. And 4810 is also the name of a new themed collection making its debut at the 2016 edition of the SIHH.

It’s Transparently Brilliant! HM6 SV By MB&F
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of the MB&F HM6, but, it does have a serious design issue: except for that flying tourbillon, the incredible movement is hidden under a protective titanium case. And what a pity: it’s as if only half of the watch was available to be appreciated. The case shape reflects the movement architecture, but the movement architecture is concealed by the case . . . or it was until HM6 SV came along!
Presenting EMC2 Time Hunter By Urwerk: Ugly Duckling Takes First Step To Swanhood
The original EMC was designed from the outset to be a platform for validating Urwerk’s mechanical/electronic hybrid concept; to be a technical instrument rather than a full-fledged conventional wristwatch.
But EMC2 now looks like a wristwatch. I still wouldn’t call it pretty, not while sober anyway, but “good looking in a macho way” isn’t so much of a stretch.
