What is the most precious element of any watch brand? Its manufacture? Its skilled employees? Its brand ambassadors? Its boutiques? Martin Green thinks that it’s none of those, because the most important asset of a brand is its so-called DNA. Here he explains how brands better used their DNA at the 2018 SIHH.
At SIHH 2018, two competitions highlighted creative young watchmakers: one by F.P. Journe in collaboration with the FHH and one from A. Lange & Söhne. Each of these competitions has a specific focus, but both are aimed at giving young watchmakers an opportunity to find the spotlight for their talents. Judging by the finalists, there is plenty of creativity to keep mechanical watchmaking alive for the next generation.

In this age of digital information, watch companies try to get ahead of the competition by releasing news on new timepieces ahead of the big watch fairs. This year is no different, and in honor of the upcoming 28th edition of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), which opens its doors on January 15, 2018, we present you with an overview of some of the new models that have already been revealed – at least electronically.
Business news: Baselworld 2018 is set to have only 600 to 700 exhibitors, which represents a decrease of around half of the last known exhibitor number.
