The (Not So) Complete Story Of Rock And Roll And Watches: Ramp The Volume Up To 11!

April 4, 2018/0 Comments/in Arts, Highlights, Collectors and Collecting/by Jan Lidmaňský

The mechanical watch works just like a metronome, with its isochronic balance maintaining a steady rhythm and the delicate tick-tock of its pallet jewels providing a rhythmic beat to our oft-frantic lives. If we ramp up the power and swap the metronome for a drum kit and a few electric guitars we have rock and roll! But which watches do rock-and-roll icons wear?

GaryG Goes To Paris To Pick Up Custom Boucheron Cufflinks Or How I Spent My Summer Vacation (Archive)

April 1, 2018/10 Comments/in Highlights, Fashion & Grooming, Jewelry, Collectors and Collecting, Travel/by GaryG

Ah, Paris! City of Lights. For the watch collector, it’s a great place to visit with boutiques aplenty, some owned and operated by the major brands; high-end mega-stores like Bucherer; and smaller independent retailers like Chronopassion and Dubail. Gary took a quick weekend trip to Paris and while there he took the opportunity to pack in as much fun as possible. Come along and bienvenue!

Easter Special: A Brief History Of Fabulous Fabergé Eggs (Archive)

March 31, 2018/0 Comments/in Arts, Fabergé/by Elizabeth Doerr

When they hear the name Fabergé, most people immediately think of imperial Easter eggs. This is logical because even today the breathtaking craftsmanship and detailed execution of these objets d’art are the stuff of legends.

The Bling and I: Collecting Jeweled And Decorated Timepieces

March 30, 2018/0 Comments/in Highlights, Jewelry, Collectors and Collecting, Thoughts & Opinion/by GaryG

Watch collecting should be fun! Yes, it’s important to show the proper respect for the designers and makers of the watches we all love, but at the same time I think it’s completely appropriate to go beyond somber and traditional daily watches and give a bit of free rein to one’s desire for more flamboyant timepieces.

Cuba’s Habanos Añejados Program Up In Smoke: No Evolution And No Complexity

March 29, 2018/2 Comments/in Wining, Dining and Cigars/by Ken Gargett

The last decade has been the most tumultuous for the Cuban cigar industry since the Revolution. There will always be the occasional “I miss the good old days” from old timers, but overall there has never been a more exciting time for cigar lovers. However, if there was one program that has not lived up to the expectations of many, it is the Aged Habanos Series called Habanos Añejados.

Grayson Tighe Series 1 Pen Collaboration With Blancpain: It’s Carved In Steel!

March 14, 2018/4 Comments/in Grayson Tighe, Highlights, Blancpain/by Nancy Olson

Blancpain regularly peers outside the box of tradition, seeking challenge, inventiveness and even provocativeness in the design of its watches. So it isn’t surprising that the watch brand decided to team up with another provocateur, pen maker Grayson Tighe, to produce a collection of limited edition pens. This is the origin of the Tighe Blancpain pens, starting with Series 1.

Louis Moinet's Treasures of the World Green Aventurine Vertalis Tourbillon seems to be only one of two wristwatches fitted with a quartz aventurine stone

Aventurine: Sparkling, Glittering, Mysterious, And Placing A Galaxy Of Stars On Your Wrist

March 13, 2018/14 Comments/in Watch Brands & Horology, Technology, Jaquet Droz, Louis Moinet/by Elizabeth Doerr

Despite seeing aventurine in six new wristwatches at SIHH – more than the number of new tourbillons Elizabeth counted – it remains a decorative artisanal element used only by luxury watchmakers in small series or unique pieces for its beauty and decorative properties. While there is some uncertainty about the origin of aventurine, it continues to add mysterious shine and scintillating glamour to watches. Here is what aventurine really is and where it comes from.

My 5 Favorite Supercars (And A Superwatch) At The 2018 Geneva Motor Show, From Koenigsegg, Hennessey, McLaren, Pagani And Pininfarina

March 12, 2018/2 Comments/in Cars, Events, Fairs & Exhibitions/by Elizabeth Doerr

These are the five prettiest cars from the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in my opinion (practicality be gone): Koenigsegg Regera, Hennessey Venom 5, McLaren Senna GTR Concept, Pagani Huayra Roadster, and Pininfarina H2 Speed. As a bonus, one of them was introduced at the same time as a new Richard Mille watch decorated in McLaren orange!

The AgenGraphe By Agenhor: The Most Significant Chronograph Since . . . Since The Invention Of The Chronograph

March 11, 2018/0 Comments/in Watch Brands & Horology, Highlights, Collectors and Collecting, Technology/by Ian Skellern

The initial key concepts for the AgenGraphe chronograph included having the elapsed time indicators displaying around the center hole so that the indications were large and highly legible, and that the minute and hour displays jumped instantaneously so that there could be no confusion when reading elapsed time. But the new chronograph ended up offering much more than that. Much more!

Seppeltsfield has just released its 1918 100-Year-Old Para Vintage Tawny Port-style wine. There is, quite simply, no other wine in the world like it. Where else could you hope to find a wine whose current release is the 1918? It exists, but only thanks to the extraordinary vision of one man.
